Union Economics

It seems that in their infinite wisdom, the labor unions down there in New York City have initiated some legislation to raise the minimum wage in subsidized areas of the city in order to help with the unemployment problem. Now i don't normally agree with mayor Bloomberg, or should I say he usually doesn't agree with me, but he even thinks it's a bad idea. When will the left and the unions realize that raising the minimum wage never increases employment but in fact lowers it?
Think about it, if you raise the minimum wage from 7 something to $11.50 an hour why would someone want to hire any one new? In fact they would be more than likely lay some people off because they can't afford them. While this bill is purported to help the inexperienced, entry level worker, no one will hire some kid off the street when they will have to pay them $11.50 to train them.

If the unions are behind this, you know it is only because they want more people in the union, simple as that. Why do they want more people in the union? So they can collect more dues to support the leaderships lavish lifestyles.

At lea here in Massachusetts we would never have to worry about that.
