The Next Big Thing

Last week I asked the question where do we go from here. I asked if the Tea Party movement is still relevant, do we need to change directions and what went wrong.

Too bad there isn't and easy answer. One of the great things about the tea party movement is we are a diverse group, who includes everyone. The underlying belief is that we all love the United States and it's Constitution . I think we all agree on this. This is and has to be the underlying theme of all we do.

The problem,as I see it, and feel free to disagree, is we need one thing, one idea, which is
  1.  Attainable
  2. . National
  3.  Unifies all who truly believe in this country and what it stands for.
Something like this could be what we need to form a base for everything else we do.

I was talking to one of my tea party cohorts and he made the point that the tea party needs to stop coddling to politicians. Mitt Romney is a perfect example of where we accepted him, some of us anyway and reluctantly at that, even though he doesn't truly embrace our principles. The same can be said with Scott Brown. My friend suggested we need to make them come to us, sign on to our message, and when they don't, we point it out to them and everyone.

Look at Barack Obama for example. He has promised everything to everyone, yet he is already reneging on some of his stands. I heard yesterday that he thinks same-sex marriage should be a state issue, not a national one. Didn't he say the opposite during the campaign? The gay movement will be sure to point this out to him and everyone else. This is what we need to do as well when it comes to tea party issues.

While many people don't identify with the tea party movement, there are many who do believe in what we stand for. Awhile back when I wrote about the annual town meeting here in Sturbridge, I pointed out that many attendees were truly tea partiers at heart, although they would never admit it. I think this is true of many, no matter which party they affiliate themselves with. The tea party is a victim of its own success as evidenced by the negative press we get daily. The left attacks what they are afraid of.

So what is this one thing which we can all coalesce around? That is the question. What is the answer? I will only say it is on the horizon. Stay tuned.
