Half a Loaf, Better Than None?

Just some last minute thoughts on tonight's town meeting. There are some important issues on the warrant, especially the citizen's petition, Article 4, which would level fund the budget. As of this writing i understand there will be a substitute motion which will increase the budget, but by only half of what the FinCom wants.
I will be voting "Yes" on the substitute motion. And I have two quick points about this whole thing, and especially concerning out Town Administrator.

In his "Memorandum" he talks about a blunderbuss approach and frustration over "perceived government largess", and then goes on to suggest somehow there was no thought from those behind the citizen's petition. I suggest quite the opposite, that there was no thought on his part or that of the FinCom who released their self-titled "Nightmare Budget" going so far as to claim the Senior Center will have to be closed and the Council of Aging will be eliminated. With all do respect this is pure BS.

There are places where the budget can be cut with no affect on the seniors. I don't see Mr. Suhoski volunteering to forego his raise or merit pay. We don't need to hire extra employees in the town hall. There are places where responsible cuts can be made. It is the TA and the FinCom who are making this a "nightmare" budget and instilling fear among certain segments of the voters and taxpayers.

Second, here is a link to Tom Creamer's personal blog. Remember this is his personal opinion and not that of the BOS. While he doesn't support Article 4, he also sees where cuts can be made.

But as I said in my last post, if you don't show up, then you will have no right to complain either way. We can either continue spending and raising taxes, or we can try to hold the line. Either way, it is up to you to decide.
