First the GSA, Now the EPA Thumbs Their Noses at us

A few posts ago I wrote about how some things transcend politics. I was referring to the planting of trees in the Town of Southbridge in neighborhoods affected by last year's tornadoes. There was a comment made by Anonymous saying I was always hard on government workers. He is right.
Here is the latest example of how government workers think we work for them. Last time it was the GSA, now it’s the EPA. Al Armendariz, the EPA administrator for the south and southwest US resigned after some comments he made in 2010. According to NewsOK.com Armendariz is resigning so as not to distract from the important work of the agency.

In a video broadcast on Fox News, Armendariz said the way he dealt with some companies was to crucify them as the Romans did when they would conquer villages, basically making examples of them. Unfortunately this is exactly how the EPA is perceived by businesses throughout the country, a bully who only cares about how many fines they can collect.

Forgetting about the whole crucify reference this is typical government mentality. We see it in the EPA, we see it in the way the GSA spends our money lavishly, we see it in the way the TSA operates, we even see it in the way our elected representatives respond to the people who elect them. These people work for us. We, through our taxes, pay their salaries, yet they feel they are better than we are.

As a member of the tea party movement who still believes in the core principles of the movement, fiscal responsibility, less government and strict adherence to the Constitution, the EPA is one of the two poster children of exactly what our movement is about. It violates all three of these principles and laughs in our face. Armendariz doesn't feel like he has done anything wrong, neither do his bosses and certainly not Barack Obama, it is the normal culture in Government. A culture or corruption and no accountability to those who pay the bills.

  1. We need to get rid of the EPA and have states pick up on their own environmental issues. States know what needs to be done and a centralized EPA has become such a nightmare for business and citizens. Ask anyone on the wrong end of an EPA lawsuit. Make the EPA answerable to local governments and people.

  2. The selectboard's a jokeMay 4, 2012 at 9:54 PM

Nice article. Couldn't agree more. Like to see you focus a little on local gov. Lot's of waste right here and it starts with the overpaid, underperforming administrator. The selectboard continues to let him and a few department heads put the screws to us.

    1. Well, I would focus on local government more but here's the rub. Since my taxes are so high I can't afford cable since satellite is cheaper, and they don't live stream it on the internet. And since I have to be in Worcester at 6 am I really can't go to the Selectmen's meetings.
Hmm, maybe if my taxes weren't so high?
Seriously, thanks for commenting and I do need to try to get more involved in local issues.
