Religious Freedom under attack

Did you know today is ""Pulpit Freedom Sunday"? What is "Pulpit Freedom Sunday" you ask? Well it is a day which has been designated for pastors to preach their views on political candidates which is a violation of the "Johnson Amendment" which was added to the IRS code on 501(c)(3) corporations, i.e. non-profits. This brings up some interesting arguments regarding the First Amendment of the Constitution.

The Johnson amendment was sponsored by none other than Lyndon B. Johnson, the champion of the progressive movement who brought us the explosion of public welfare in his "Great Society". How's that working out by the way? But I digress.

Proponents of this amendment argue the tired "Separation of church and state" argument, which is nowhere in the Constitution, claiming this would violate this separation, I agree. Only for different reasons. When the government interferes and dictates to what can be preached in churches, then they are establishing a state religion and are crossing that "separation" line. Churches teach biblical principles and when a government policy  goes against those teachings, pastors should be able to preach against them.

It can certainly be said that this is exactly how our country was founded since it was pastors railing against the Church of England and their suppression of religion which got the ball rolling on American independence. Maybe that's why the secular progressives want to stop this preaching?

I will admit there is a grey area regarding whether or not endorsing candidates crosses a line, after all that is what the Johnson amendment is about, it says nothing about issues though. But if the candidate believes in the biblical principles of the church, it can be argued they can endorse a candidate.

It is clear to me that the left and the secularists are trying to subvert the Constitution and squash opposition to their agenda.
