Karl Marx would be proud

Karl Marx sure would be proud of the "Occupy Wall Street" crowd. They have manged to come up with a modern day equivalent to his "Communist Manifesto". They have posted on their website a list of thirteen demands which I guess they are hoping to accomplish with their protests.

Marx would love the fact they want the government to forgive everyone's debt, especially those college loans which they all took out so they could study such things as "Ancient Arabic Languages" or "Art History" with the hope of landing that plum job, and of course they are now unemployed. That would be number 11. And then there is number three, which demands a living wage for all no matter if they are actually employed or not. Number four is for a fee college education, and then they are looking for a measly two trillion dollars for infrastructure improvements and restoring the ecology of the world.

These are all very laudable goals indeed but there is just one teensey weensey little problem. Who exactly is going to pay for all this stuff? After all, they want everyone to get paid for not working, which basically means no one will work any longer since they don't have to. The want to eliminate free trade and impose high tariffs (hmmm, sound like the thirties doesn't it?) but since no one will be working where do they expect goods to come from? And since no one will be working, where will the government get taxes to pay for the infrastructure improvements or for that matter who will restore the ecology?

I hope they succeed in all this, I can't wait to stop working and get paid to do nothing, much like many of the people I work with now do. But somehow I just don't think it will last all that long. You see there is a problem in the group:

Hi my name is Rachel.  I’m here with comfort.  I want to make an announcement about some things that we need.  Important things we need are boots for males and females, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and folding chairs.  Also, we have lots of bags of laundry from when it’s been raining.  Since there is no Laundromat nearby, we are asking for volunteers who would like to take one bag of laundry to their home to get it clean and bring it back.  Please, come see us at Comfort to do that.  Thank you. Comfort, if you don’t know already, it’s right next to Medical on this side of the park. - http://nycga.cc/2011/10/03/things-we-need/

The movement could be lost for the lack of a Laundromat.
