Random Musings

Ah, spring here in Sturbridge, the grass is getting green, the snow is almost gone, the sap is running through the trees. Speaking of saps, here I am with another set of random Tea Party type musings.
Let's start with how nice it is that are fearless leader Barack Obama is going to sacrifice some of his salary so he can better understand how we here in the other half are living. Well actually he wants to show solidarity with those federal workers who had to take a five percent salary cut do to someone's (not pointing fingers here) inability to stop the recent budget cuts. There certainly many of us tea party type folks who will certainly claim that these federal employees may be overpaid as it is but then is that really the issue? If Obama really wants to sacrifice let's see him cut out the golf excursions with Tiger Woods, the lavish vacations for the first daughters and lady (clearing throat) and all the other taxpayer funded perks he receives. Let him worry about whether to pay the mortgage, buy food or put gas in the tank, then he can talk to me about sacrifice.

Too bad he isn't waving goodbye
Ah, spring, the sky is blue, the grass is turning green, all that dirty snow is almost gone, the sap is dripping from the trees, life is good. Speaking of saps, here I am, and here are some random musings.

And on a more local note, did you know there is a state-wide primary coming up? Seems we need to replace John Kerry so the Democrats are having a primary between Ed Markey and Steven Lynch and then the Republicans are having a primary with three more Democrats as well. Okay, only one Democrat, and two guys who call themselves Republicans but who both seem to be more like the Democrats. Now a fellow Republican here in Sturbridge (you know who you are) has told me that the Republicans have to be more like Democrats or else they won't win. Really? Then they aren't real republicans or conservatives. Kind of like Scott Brown. Wait, did I say that? Yes I am still stewing about Brown's turning into an unofficial democrat and am trying to get my campaign donation back. You are either a republican or you aren't. You are either a conservative or you aren't. Maybe if a real conservative republican were to run, he or she just might win.

And on an even more local note, here in Sturbridge, there is some good news and some bad news. The good news is that you can now either live stream or replay the Board of Selectman meetings right from your very own computer. This is great news for those of us who either refuse or can not afford to pay the exorbitant cable rates through Charter and for those who can't attend the meetings due to various reasons. The bad news is that you can now either live stream or replay the Board of Selectman meetings right from you very own computer. Why bad you ask? Here's the rub. If you watch them at night, if you do not currently do so, you will soon turn to drink. If you watch during the day, you could just fall asleep. Okay, just kidding about the bad news, I actually am very happy to be able to watch the meetings now, so thanks to ever is responsible for this.

And finally, here in Sturbridge Town Election is Monday, April 8, 2013. I have to admit I have been very lax and have no idea who is running and will work on that in the next few days, but remember this is where you can make the most difference in you day to day life. The people you elect here and the ones who most affect your quality of life and your tax rates. They are the ones who set the rules you have to follow. Do your homework.

And on those same lines, the Town Meeting will be coming up soon. another place where you can make a difference. We kept it somewhat under control last year, we need to be vigilant and do the same this year.

  2. If anyone local is out there its time to raise a stink about the proposed budget. Its going up again. I understand inflation etc but can we not reduce our budget at all. I applaud Creamer for being against salary increases but that is small potatoes. We are supposed to be happy that its only going up a bit, i for one am not. I want to see a decrease of at least 5% and holding back raises will not do it. How bout our department heads and administrator play hard ball with the unions and get a contract that is favorable to the town. Reeling in the budgets of all departments by 5% or more if possible is not that far of a stretch. What about a warrant article. 5% less than last year it gets passed at town meeting then they get to figure it out, our quaint new england version of a sequester. It will never happen unless it is forced upon the powers that be. We arent much different than the federal and state government. Hell there are more members of congress then there are people that attend town meeting.

    1. You are right, this is only a very small step. We need to look at all the spending, and really determine what is needed and what is not. Each money article should be looked at and one question asked: Is it a true necessity or something that would be nice to have?

      Thanks for the comment.
